More information : [SE 06822967] A B.A. cinerary urn with cremation , contained in a cist, was disovered in 1877 in the graveyard of Mount Zion Chapel, Ovenden. The urn is in the Bankfield Museum. (1-3) J.W. Davis (a) attributes this find to St. John's "a few yards from the boundary wall during the extension of the graveyard". This, however, clearly applies to Mount Zion Chapel not St. John's and infers an approximate find-spot at SE 06792924. The urn has the accession number AH54 (4)
SE 0679 2974. Mount Zion, Ovenden.
Collared urn discovered in February 1877 in the grounds of Mount Zion Chapel, 2 feet below the surface. A slab of stone was found and beneath it a square cist formed of 4 upright stones containing the urn, inverted and surronded by gravel. The vessel is 19 inches high, 13 inches diameter at mouth and 4 inches at base; its `neck is ornamented with dots', and it contained the broken, cremated bones of an adult female.
