Summary :
A possible Roman settlement site consisting of a floor of rammed chalk, a possible wall 1st to 2nd century pottery and part of a millstone.
More information :
TR 269677. Roman remains found. During trenching as part of an
agricultural demonstration in 1982, a floor of rammed chalk and the
vestige of a flint wall were exposed; also half of a small millstone
in Bethersden marble. Pottery fragments were in the late 1st-2nd
century fabrics. This site could have been close to the shore of a
small natural harbour in Roman times. (1)
