Summary : Church Street. Largely rebuilt in the C19 but the arcade of the Chancel is C13, the arches of the central tower, the Lady Chapel and St Eanswythe's Chapel are C15. The nave and North aisle were rebuilt in 1856-9. Perpendicular West window and porch were added 1872. South chancel aisle and transept were rebuilt in 1869 and the South aisle in 1874. This was both the parish and priory church between 1137-1535, (see TR23NW17). The conventual buildings lay to the South and West of the church. Folkestone was one of the early minsters founded in Kent before 700. The Domesday Monachorum records that 10 churches were dependent upon the minster. |
