Summary : Brewhouse and bakehouse range at St Augustine's Abbey. The west gable of the brewhouse still remains. Excavations in 1993 revealed the foundations of the east end of the range. This part of the building was probably a granary and part of another building was discovered to the north thought to have been a malthouse. Various drains were also discovered during the excavation running north across the outer court. All the buildings appear to have been demolished soon after the Dissolution. These buildings were probably built by Abbot Thomas Fyndon (1283-1309) when a new cellarers range on the north side of the enlarged inner court was built. This in turn required a completely new outer court to to be created further north with a new brewhouse and bakehouse range on its north side.
More information : (TR 15445793 - see illustration card) A brewhouse and bakehouse
range to the N of the cellarers range (TR 15 NE 305), St Augustine's

buildings. Ruins of a W wall remain. (1-2)
