More information : [SD 97095688] TUMULUS [O.E.] A ditched barrow at Scale House, 30 ft. in diameter and 5 ft. high, was excavated in 1864 by Canon Greenwell, and found to contain a tree-trunk coffin burial of B.A. date. Published survey (25") correct. A well-preserved bowl barrow with superficial traces of a ditch. A piece of oak from the coffin, and a fragment of worsted cere cloth are displayed in Craven Museum, Skipton. Situated at SD 97095687, on a small hill spur, this well-preserved barrow measures 14.5m diameter and 1.2m maximum height. The remains of the ditch are too slight for measurement. SD 9708 5687. Scale Hill round cairn. Scheduled RSM No 24501. A turf-covered cairn in a low lying position near Scale House farmyard. It measures 1.5m high and 14m in diameter with a slight surrounding ditch 1.3m wide. (7)
