More information : [SZ 39979117 - house named 'The Grange']. A grange at HAMPSTEDE was owned by QUARR ABBEY at the Dissolution. (1) Grange symbol. (2) Not mentioned. (3) [Area centred SZ 39969124]. All the buildings at HAMSTEAD are fairly modern and enquiries at The Grange and the Farm revealed no tradition of any connection with QUARR ABBEY or knowledge of the meaning of 'Grange'. HAMSTEAD HOUSE has been demolished but its stables and boundary wall, all that survive, are of modern brick. (4)
