More information : [SD 981 176] PACKHORSE ROAD [GT] (1) A pack horse track over Blackstone Edge, on the Yorks side of the boundary, runs side by side and a little to the north of the Roman road as far as Rishworth Drain. [Course plotted from map (2).] Where the Roman road enters Rag Sapling Clough [SD 9817] the pack track diverges, going to the north of Slate Pit Hill, the roads rejoining just above the junction of Black Castle and Rag Sapling Clough, [SD 9818]. Farther east the pack track can be traced through two quarry workings. (2) The section of the track from SD 97481721 is mainly terraced, 5m wide and partially paved. There is no visible evidence of any deviation round Slate Pit Hill, (although the contour of the ground makes this the natural route) or of any easterly continuation beyond SD 98931843. (3) Condition unchanged. (4)
