MONUMENT NO. 451878

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of a bowl barrow on Hog Hill, a short distance west of Maiden Castle (SY 68 NE 7 and associated monument records). It is part of a cluster of barrows to the west and northwest of Maiden Castle (see associated monuments). The barrow is listed by Grinsell as Winterborne St Martin 33 and by RCHME as Winterborne St Martin 138. In 1953, Grinsell reported that the mound had been destroyed and no visible surface trace remained, something with which both RCHME and the Ordnance Survey agreed. The barrow is scheduled, however, and the schedule entry implies survival of a mound at least 0.5 metres high and 23 metres in diameter.
