The Priory of St Peter and Paul of Plympton was of the order of St. Augustine and was founded in 1121. The ancient cell of St Mary de Marisco, commonly called Marsh Barton was dependent upon Plympton Priory and mentioned between 1155 and 1160. On Sept 9th 1546 King Henry VIII granted the site to James Coffyn and Thomas Goodwin. (5)
No knowledge of Priory site. Nothing has been seen there during farming operations over the past 30 years. (6)
[SX 92259094] A very ordinary and somewhat dilapidated farmhouse, it is on a newly constructed trading estate complete with roads and factories and it seems likely that the farm too will soon be erased to make room for new buildings. No additional informaton re the site of the Priory was ascertained. (7)
James Coffin [Coffyn Auth 5 refs] built a mansion at Marsh Barton or else he converted the Priroy into a residence in 1562 it was sold to J. Hoker. (8)
