Coins of Valerianus, Gallienus, Claudius Gothicus, Posthumus, Victorinus the Elder (found at Rovey Tracey Furzeley) (3)
It is apparent that a cave was in the FURZELEY ROCKS, about a mile north of Bovey Tracey. Traditionally once being the chamber of a hermit. The discovery of coins established the fact that it had been in use by the Romans (sic). During the last and present century nearly all the above has been removed for building and scarcely any evidence of the place is left. (4)
Centred at SX81857962). This area is known as Furzeley Rocks. Attempts to find the cave have not been successful. This is probably due to the fact that there has been stone quarrying in the area. (5)
No trace of a cave was seen and no additonal information re the present whereabouts of the Roman coin hoard was aquired. (6) |
