More information : (SX 85676874) Church House (NAT). (1) The church house at Abbotskerswell is a two storey building about 165 yards east of the church. It has been thoroughly and well restored and is still a building of some attraction. The lower storey was for men, the upper for women, as it appears later to have been a poor-house. It has oak-framed windows with four-centred lights; external stairs; round-headed oak doorways; and rectangular projections. (2-3) Old Church House, possibly 16th century, restored circa 1922 and now two cottages and village hall. There is an external chimney on the front, and at the rear are external stone steps said to have provided separate access for women to the first floor. Grade II. (4) Church House, mid 16th c., restored 1913-14. Limestone rubble walls and gable ended slate roof on chamfered stone cornice. Grade II. (5)
