More information : (SD 77861954) Robin Hood's Well (NAT) (1) The covering stone of this well is massive sandstone and pyramidal in shape, with the apex considerably blunted, and there are some curiously shaped indentations in it. Nothing seems to be known about the well, but it is evidently of great age. (2) Robin Hood's Well is covered by a pyramidal sandstone block 1m square with water-worn hollows. The cover is supported on its E side by a flagstone and on its W by the stonework of a wall, thus raising it to a height of 0.8m from the ground. From beneath this cover a spring flows into a trough 1m square made of sandstone blocks set flush into the ground. The water in this trough then overflows into a soak-away. The well correctly shown on 25" AM. (3) Published survey (25") correct. (4)
