More information : (SD 72420899) Tumulus (NR) (Site of) (1) A tumulus, about 30ft diameter and 4ft high, discovered in 1825. Excavation yielded an approximately central cist (4ft 6ins by 12 ins) containing a contracted burial, with an associated incense cup (4 1/2ins by 3ins)and a bronze knife/dagger (4 3/4ins by 1 3/8ins). Two other tumuli were found a few yards to the south. (2) No remains, sites now covered by modern development. Finds transferred to Bolton Museum. (3) During a structural survey on a house in Bradford St.Bolton (SD 72420899)cracking found in walls, confirming house in c.1900 on remains of Bronze Age tumulus A. On opposite side of Bradford St. some cracking visible in one or two houses probably confirming this as the site of tumuli B and C. (4)
