Summary : Bronze Age cairn and cist. The cairn is a mound 5m in diameter and 0.2m heigh. with a rectangular cist 1.2m long, 0.7m wide and 0.3m deep. The over stone rests on the south side and is 1.6m long by 1m wide. The Bronze Age cairn and cist, recorded by previous authorities, are visible as a structure and earthwork on 2021 Historic England orthomosaic aerial photography. The site was mapped from aerial sources in 2023 during the Historic England Dartmoor-Plym project
More information : (SX 60386692) Cist (NR) (1) Cist found during routine perambulation. Two end stones and the western side stone are in an upright position while the eastern side stone leans inwards. Length of northern end stone 0.7m, southern end stone 0.7m, eastern side stone 1.2m and western side stone 1m. Present depth of cist 0.3m. There is a cover stone measuring 1.6m by 1m which rests on the eastern side stone and which partly covers the northern corner of the cist. The cist is situated in a turf covered cairn 5 m in diameter and 0.4m high. (2) A cairn with central cist as described and planned by (2). Surveyed at 1:10000 on PFD. (3) Listed under round barrows, cairns and cists by Grinsell and visited by him 18 September 1974. (4) Depicted and decribed by Robertson. (6) Depicted and described by Butler. (7) SX 60386692. This feature remains as described by Authority 2. (8) The Bronze Age cairn and cist, recorded by previous authorities, are visible as a structure and earthwork on 2021 Historic England orthomosaic aerial photography. The site was mapped from aerial sources in 2023 during the Historic England Dartmoor-Plym project. It is centred on SX 60375 66915. The cairn mound measures approximately 4.6m in diameter.
