More information : A Roman altar, over 3' high but lacking much of the left-hand side, was found c.1684 on the NE.side of Kirkby Lonsdale churchyard, in a bank called Abbats Brow beside the River Lune, and seen by Machell in use as a seat in the High Street. Now lost. (Siting: SD 6116 7892 ). (1)
