More information : (SX 20018674) Tumulus (NR) (1) Tregulland Burrow, totally excavated in 1955 prior to destruction, revealed a complex barrow structure. Cup marked stones found amongst the infill of a central rectalinear pit, one end of which was undisturbed, suggest a stone lined grave. This together with surrounding stake circles, a satellite grave containing a cremation with two arrowheads and a ritual pit? were the features of the first phase of construction. The second phase consisted of a cairn ring with a buttressing bank (which replaced the stake circle), the soil for which was dug from the encircling ditch. After this second phase the barrow centre was open and an E B A food-vessel cremation was placed on the ground surface within the cairn ring. The whole area was then covered by further earth from the ditch to form a retained bowl barrow. Plans. (2) There are no surface indications of the barrow site in the arable. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (3) Included in the distrubution map of Bronze Age sites in Cornwall. (4) |
