Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 431485

Hob Uid: 431485
Location :
Cornwall
Lanivet
Grid Ref : SX0674063230
Summary : Suggested round, later disproved
More information : SX 06746323 The Tithe Apportionment name 'Round
Field' and an adjacent field to the west named 'Longstone'
suggested the site of a round.

To prove the possible existence of a round on excavation took
place in 1978. A kink in the outward-curving west wall of the
field suggested the possible line of an earthwork but a trench
extending 30m failed to produce any evidence of an encircling
ditch.

After further watching during the making of an underground
reservoir also failed to produce evidence, it was concluded
that the field name did not imply an archaeological site. (1)
