More information : (SX 07886292) Cross (NR) (remains of). (1) A cross base set vertically into the hedge near Trebyan at the junction of the road leading to Tredinnick farm. "MAVISIR" is carved upon it in 5th to 6th century characters but Hencken quotes Henderson's reservations regarding the antiquity of the inscription. MacAlister concurs and notes other more obvious modern lettering. Socket hole 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" (2); Width 3' 7" (4). (2-4) Langdon lists a cross base at Tredinnick, possibly the same as that published on OS maps. (5) SX 07866293 As described, although the lettering is difficult to decipher; the base is a typical medieval cross-base of crude form. Repositioned on 1:2500. (6)
The text is now no longer elligible. If it was Early Mediaeval, the text would have date to the 9th-11th centuries. (7)
