More information : (SW 826608 - SW 733455; SW 818544 - SW 785561) Dismantled Railway (NAT). (1) (SW 785564 - SW 764574) Tramway (NAT). (2) The branch line from Newquay (SW 826608) to East Wheal Rose (SW 85 NW 15) opened by 1849 as part of J.T. Treffry's mineral railway network. This section was incorporated in the Great Western Railway line from Newquay to Blackwater (SW 733455). The line from Blackwater to Perranporth (SW 7553) opened in 1903 and was extended to join the earlier mineral branch to Treamble (SW 785561) at Shepherds Station (SW 818544) in 1905. The tramway from Treamble to Gravel Hill Mine (SW 764574) was closed in 1888 and the track removed (the course is now followed by a path.) The section from Treamble to Shepherds Station closed in 1917 but re-opened in 1926 and was last used in 1949, the main length from Blackwater to Newquay being completely closed in 1963. (3,4)
