More information : (SW 85483202) St. Anthony's Church (Donative) (NAT) (1)
The church of St. Anthony, St Anthony in Roseland, is an aisleless cruciform fabric with a low central tower and spire, and although much restored in 1850, is the best example in the county of a 12th and 13th century parish church. The south doorway is Norman, but may have come from Plympton Priory. The church was attached to the priory cell (see SW 83 SE 2) and a flight of steps from the north wall of the nave still comminicates with Place House. At the dissolution the parishioners claimed the nave and transepts but the choir was seized by the lay proprietor and destroyed. Rebuilt in 1850, after which it became private. (2-5) |
