More information : (SW 779544) St Piran's Round (NR) (1) Piran (or Perran) Round... is a high circular earthwork, some 200ft.across; quite possibly prehistoric in origin, it is now the finest remaining example of the so-called plen an gwary, the medieval amphitheatres of Cornwall. (2) Either a "round" used as a "playing place" or simply a "playing place", the earthwork comprises a bank and external ditch enclosing a flat circular area about 45 metres in diameter. Now with 2 opposed entrances it would appear that only that on the East is original as the ditch around the Western side can be seen to have been continuous. St Piran's Round is well preserved and is still sometimes used as a theatre. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (3) Rounds are now classified Iron Age/Romano British. (4)
