More information : SW63703888 (1). The most likely site of Penpons manor house is the large cottage now called 'Ivy Cottage' in Higher Penponds, the original 'Penpons' being that part of the village. The extensive manor of Penpons and Baripper passed to the St Aubyn family of Clowance in Crowan and has only been dispersed by sale in the last 40 years. An inquisition was held in the 'Chapel of Blessed Marie of Penpons', in 1421, and in 1445 a license for divine service was granted to Richard and Amisia Penspons, it being presumed that they were living in the manor house at the time. Carah records a large number of worked stones in and around Penponds, which he rescued and built into a summerhouse in the vicarage garden. A fragmentary door frame surrounds the front left window of Ivy Cottage which itself appears to constitute the remnants of a 15th century rectangular of L-shaped building. (1-2)
