More information : [Centred at SW 3545 3263] Kenidjack Castle (Cliff Castle) [NR] (1) Kenidjack headland has a spine of steep outcrop which forms a barrier to a central approach but allows relatively easy access via the N.E. and S.W. sides, and across these approaches two sets of ramparts have been constructed. The northern set is the best preserved and comprises triple ramparts with outer ditches. The banks show the remains of stone revetting, and the innermost seems to have been almost wholly of stone construction. The southern set now consists of two similar ramparts with outer ditches and there was probably a third outer rampart which in part utilized a cross wall of outcropping rock but this rampart has been largely obliterated by erosion and landslip. To each side of the headland, between the central outcrop and the ramparts, there is a pathway. Both may be original features for within the fort the only method of getting from one side to the other is by climbing the outcrops. There are several foundation walls at the centre of the landward end of the promontory, but these may be relatively modern. At SW 3545 3256 and SW 3546 3257 are two shallow scoops, built up on the lower side, and set against the innermost bank. These scoops are very like hut sites and compare well with those at Treryn Dinas (Corn 78 NE 1). In the northern part at SW 3546 3565 and SW 3548 3564 are two quarried hollows up to 1.0m deep and built up on the lower side with upcast rock and earth. These may be hut circles, but there is a possibility that they are associated with the mining activity which is much in evidence further down the cliff in North Zawn cove. A 25" survey of the promontory fort and hut sites has been made. (2) Kenidjack: three ramparts and ditches on NE side, two on SW side. SW 35503263, one, possibly two, hut circles. (3) No change from survey of 20.12.60. Surveyed on PFD. (4) Scheduled under Camps and Settlements. (5)
