Summary : A Bronze Age round barrow with retaining stones, containing one or more cists. The barrow has been subject to excavation and takes more of an oval shape. It measures a maximum height of 0.4 metres. |
More information : "A barrow near [Cairn Vres] was opened when a perfectly walled grave was found containing an urn; this grave was not covered again; it is about 6' long and 4' wide in the middle and contracted at the extremities. This barrow is said to cover several such graves." (1) SW 38523210 Barrow at Carn Vres. Remains extant. [sited] (2) This barrow at SW 3852 3209 has a maximum height of 1.4m. It has been much damaged by excavation and is now of rather oval plan; many of the retaining stones are visible and at the S. end of the barrow are the remains of a chamber. Of this only the southern side survives, as stone walling 1.0m high, with an excavation trench extending from it northwards and westwards. A 25" Survey has been made. (3) No change.
