Hob Uid: 419232
Location :
East Sussex
Rother
Icklesham
Grid Ref : TQ9032017380
Summary : Barn with cellar dated to 1300, alleged to be one of the sites of the Dominican Friary of Winchelsea.
More information : Site of Blackfriars (Dominican) House. Founded 1318. Dissolved 1538. Apparently moved to new sites in 1339, 1342 and 1358. Settled at this site 1358. Sited from plan. Foundations still exist. (1-2)

No trace of Blackfriars at site indicated by Auth. 1 and 2
(TQ90401756). Local information states that the ruin at TQ90311731 is Blackfriars which was formerly in use as a barn. The jamb of a pointed arch in the SW corner and cellars indicate an early but indeterminate date. (3)
