Rochford Hall was built c. 1540-50 and is interesting as the wreck of
a very large C16th mansion.
Grade II No 12/86 (2-3)

Rochford Hall: a large L shaped brick and stone house with octagonal
towers: C16th but probably incorporated an earlier house.
Although partly cement rendered and refenestrated, with its
contemporary buildings and church it forms an interesting and important complex.
Now used partly as a Golf Club, partly as a farmhouse.
GP AO/66/111/4. (4)

Rochford Hall and ruins. The remains of a very large house now a golf club house, said to have been built circa 1540-50 of possibly C12th/C13th origin. Grade I (see list for details). (5)

TQ 870903. Observation of foundation trenches and a series of small-scale excavation by D Andrews for Essex County Council have revealed that the C16th Hall is on the site of an earlier manorial centre and that it extends over the rectilinear moat which enclosed that centre in its later phases. The Hall has been shown to be rectangular, probably with four courtyards and with octagonal turrets at all except perhaps the SE corner. It too was surrounded by a moat. (6)

Additional reference. (7-9)

Scheduled listing for uninhabited portions. (10)
