More information : [TQ 74216847 - sited to Prior's Gate House] Site which comprises the front garden of Prior's Gate House and lies to the east and north of the only surviving (above ground) part of the Bishop's Palace. Excavations revealed a section of Roman rampart and wall, a substantial Norman building 39ft by 18ft, earlier than c.1150, the east wing of the Palace, and various medieval and post medieval structures. Finds included several Roman, Anglo Saxon and medieval coins, medieval tiles and much pottery and small finds from all periods. (1)
