COMBWELL PRIORY

Augustinian Priory, originally founded as an abbey in the reign of Henry II, but due to the shortfall in the endowment, reduced to the rank of priory circa 1220. It was disputed whether it should be Augustinian or Premonstratensian, it being found in favour of the former in 1230. Dissolved in 1536, there are no extant remains.
