Summary : Augustinian Priory, originally founded as an abbey in the reign of Henry II, but due to the shortfall in the endowment, reduced to the rank of priory circa 1220. It was disputed whether it should be Augustinian or Premonstratensian, it being found in favour of the former in 1230. Dissolved in 1536, there are no extant remains. |

No trace remains of the Augustinian Priory of St. Mary Magdalen, Combwell. Founded as an Abbey temp. Henry II, it became a Priory c.1220 and was dissolved in 1536. (2-4)
Mr. Roberts, the owner of Combwell, states that to his knowledge no remains of the Priory have ever been found at the site. (5) |
