More information : (SD 47376199) Site of (NAT) Priory (NR). (1)

A Benedictine priory at Lancaster was founded circa 1094 as an alien cell to Seez, and dissolved in 1428. (2)

The site of this alien priory is occupied by a kitchen garden of St Mary's Vicarage; no remains exist. (3)

Remains of the Benedictine priory which lie beneath the present day church and the ground to the north of it. Evidence suggests that the priory had a precinct wall and gatehouse. Further finds from beneath the priory church include fragments of early Christian carved stone crosses (SD 46 NE 22) and early 9th century coins, suggesting that this may also have been the site of a monastery, probably founded between the 7th and 9th centuries. Scheduled. (4)
