COCKERHAM PRIORY

DESCRIPTION + /

St Michael's Church was granted to Leicester Abbey by William de Lancaster, with some land, circa 1153-4. In 1207-8 it was served by a chaplain and 3 canons. It was under a prior in 1208, but in 1281-90, a secular chaplain was appointed and most of the canons were withdrawn. Its status was reduced to a cell until it was dissolved in 1477. There are no extant remains.
