More information : (TQ 5371 0178) Tumulus (NR). (1)
A barrow, 27-28 yds in diameter and about 5ft high, apparently composed chiefly of loose soil and chalk rubble. It is much burrowed with a central hollow, around which is a "flint circle". (2)
A bowl barrow as described by Grinsell, now overgrown with brambles and scrub. There is no trace of a ditch or the "flint circle", the latter probably spoil from the central excavation hollow. Published survey (25") revised. (3)
The barrow is clearly visible on aerial photographs from 1925 as damaged mound, with a central hollow on its summit and a much-disturbed-looking eastern side. There is just a hint of a ditch on this eastern side. (4) |
