More information : (Centred TQ 554 02999) Tumuli (OE) (3 shown). (1) 'A' (TQ 5539 0294) Tumulus. 27 yds in diameter and 7-8' high. Much burrowed. Composed largely of loose sandy soil. 'B' (TQ 5546 0293) Tumulus. Unusual type, but whether intentional or due to accident is another matter. 'C' (TQ 5549 0292) Tumulus. 20 yds in diameter and 6' high. Burrowed. No visible ditch. (2) 'A' & 'C' bowl-barrows (dimensions and details as above). 'B' Type uncertain. 16 yds diam,2ft high. Mutilated. (3) MBA barrow on Folkington Hill excavated in 1960. The finds included sherds and a collared urn as well as flints (1). The Research Committee of the Sussex Arch Soc hold an excavation report (2). (No siting given, but probably one of this group). (4-5) The barrow excavated was 'A' of this group. The excavation is to be concluded in 1973 under the direction of Mr K C Jewson, and a report is to be submitted to the Sx Arch Soc. According to Mr Jewson, no primary burial has been discovered, and he believed the barrow had been previously robbed. The MBA collared urn with cremated bones is secondary, having been discovered in the SE quadrant. The sherds include some Hallstatt 'A', and the artifacts include flint scrapers, a hammerstone and "worked flints". All finds are still held by Mr Jewson. 'A' = c 20m diam, 2.0m high, with central excavation crater. Bowl barrow. 'B' = c 7.5m diam, 0.4m high. Bowl barrow. 'C' = c 16.0m diam, 1.6m high. Bowl barrow. Surveys revised at 1:2500 (2.10.72).
