More information : Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery, the Old Tilt Yard, Greenwich. TQ 38697785. 1860. Three enamelled escutcheons from a hanging bowl found with a burial. Three other skeletons found within 100 yards with bronze pins and 'bronze ring money". Objects in Canterbury Museum. (1)
The escutcheons are of a similar size, one with a circular frame and broken hook. The design on each has a central 3-strand spiral. The design is worked in Bronze on a red enamelled background (2)
Four inhumation burials with grave goods were identified. One burial included a possible hanging bowl of C7 date. There is the potential for further Anglo-Saxon burials to survive in the tiltyard area. Scheduled as `Greenwich Palace'. (3)
