Summary : Alleged Cistercian monastery founded in 1263 and incorporated into house called `The Priory'. No substantiating evidence.
More information : Dallaway (a), quoting Tanner (b), refers to the 'Cistercian Priory of Ripa Mola founded by Henry de Apurdele, 1263, for a prior and four monks of the Cistercian Order of St. Benedict' at Leatherhead, the ruins of which are incorporated in the present house ('The Priory' - TQ 1667 5608: O.S. 25", 1934). This establishment is not mentioned, either by Knowles and Hadcock (c) or V.C.H. (d), and a note in the local transactions (e) dismisses the article as a 'jeu d'esprit'.
