More information : [TQ 17423705] Moat[G.T.] (1) Homestead moat in Moat Copse a close F earthwork.(2) Slopes 3 ft. to 6ft. high surveyed.(3) A sub-rectangular homestead moat, now wooded, measuring overall 75.0m EW by 52.0m transversely. The moat, about 16.0m wide and up to 3.0m deep, is dry except around the NW corner. The enclosed area presents a very disturbed appearance, being covered with mounds and hollows, and much early red brick is apparent beneath the turf. A retaining bank has been thrown across a stream on the S side of the moat to impound water rising from a spring, presumably in the wet NW corner. Re-surveyed at 1:2500.(4)
