Homestead moat in Moat Copse a close F earthwork.(2)

Slopes 3 ft. to 6ft. high surveyed.(3)

A sub-rectangular homestead moat, now wooded, measuring overall
75.0m EW by 52.0m transversely. The moat, about 16.0m wide and
up to 3.0m deep, is dry except around the NW corner. The enclosed
area presents a very disturbed appearance, being covered with
mounds and hollows, and much early red brick is apparent
beneath the turf.

A retaining bank has been thrown across a stream on the S side
of the moat to impound water rising from a spring, presumably
in the wet NW corner.

Re-surveyed at 1:2500.(4)
