The Manor of "Rislepe" is first mentioned as being in the possession of Ernulf de Hesdin, who gave it to the Abbey of Bec - Hellouin in Normandy in 1096, and about 1149 a small priory was established at Ruislip. It was dissolved in 1414 and in 1461 became the property of Kings College, Cambridge.
Beneath the lawn are the remains of thick flint walls, and Gothic tracery has been turned up. Some 15 feet of the mediaeval boundary wall has been excavated by the present tenant of the farm, Mr Ewer, on the northern rampart of the Castle Bailey. [MOTTE & BAILEY CASTLE - TQ 08 NE 14]
