Location :
West Sussex

Littlehampton
Grid Ref : TQ0324001600
Summary : Gun battery at Littlehampton documented from 1587-1757.
More information : Littlehampton is mentioned as a position of coastal defence in a survey of these in 1587. What the defensive work was and where it was sited are uncertain, but it was probably a battery, and possibly the 5 gun battery which is known to have been in existence pre-1757 in the area TQ 03240160, where the OS map of 1813 shows presumably Napoleonic Barracks.
