Summary : Benedictine Priory Cell of Durham founded 1189-94, dissolved in 1534. The site was levelled and then used for a 17th century country house.
More information : SD 35672797 Lytham Hall on site of (NAT) Priory Cell (NR) (Benedictine. Founded c AD 1189) (NAT). (1) Lytham, Priory Cell, founded circa 1189-94, dissolved after 1535. The number of monks appears to have been usually three, apart from the prior. (2) The whole of the buildings were levelled to make way for Lytham Hall, a classic house started in 1751 but not completed until 1764 (4), and nothing remains. (3-4) SD 35672797 Lytham Hall on site of (NAT) Priory Cell (NR)(Benedictine) (NAT). (5)
