DUNWICH BLACKFRIARS

DESCRIPTION + /

A Dominican Friary was founded at Dunwich by Sir Roger de Holish before 1256. There were apparently 24 friars in 1277. In 1384 licence was granted to move the friary, then threatened by the incursions of the sea, to Blythburgh, but the friars remained at Dunwich until the suppression in 1538. Destroyed by coastal erosion.
