More information : (TM 07905655) A circular moat, near Creeting Hall, 6ft in depth, and probably indicating a Medieval farmstead, was levelled by bulldozer in November 1959 (depicted on OS 6" 1880 but not annotated). Information by R Jardine. Visible as the soil mark of a large oval ditched feature on OS air photographs 1975. (1-2) The soil mark visible on OS air photographs (authy 2) measures overall 90.0m east - west and 70.0m north west - south east the ditch averaging 8.0m wide. The site lies on the alluvial flood plain of the River Gipping and is now visible as a slight non surveyable lift in plough. A scatter of red brick fragments and peg tile was seen during investigation but no concentration was found to indicate the exact site of a building. (3)
