Hob Uid: 386364
Location :
Essex
Tendring
Alresford
Grid Ref : TM0640020100
Summary : Beaker found in a gravel pit, possibly associated with a barrow.
More information : TM 064201. In June 1942 Miss A Pilkington found a
beaker, 70 yds north west of Bench Mark 74.8 and 560 yds
slightly west of south from Alresford Church. The beaker was
found about 5 ft down in the face of a gravel pit. No mound had
been observed there but a circular crop mark had been noted.

In 1922 Laver had noted a ploughed down barrow some 18 inches
high in this field. There can be no doubt about the site
which is recognisation from his sketch map. It was 200 yds from
the road and 20 yds south of the track into the field. (1-3)
