ST ANNES CHAPEL

DESCRIPTION + /

A chapel stood on the south side of the road to Harwich in St James parish and was extant in 1768. There was a hermitage here which had a private endowment from St Botolph's Priory (TL92SE21). In 1388 John Newton occupied it and in 1417 the hermit was called the master of the hospital of St Anne de Halywell, but nothing is known of this hospital. No visible surface remains of this chapel, the site of which is now occupied by St James Parish Hall.
