More information : [TM 0085 1245] Tessellated Pavement: A red tessellated pavement, partly underlying road, found in 1936 at a depth of 3 ft. 3 ins. with a rubbish pit on its northeast side. (1-2)
See Also TM 01 SW 28. (3) At West Mersea a red tessellated pavement with quarter-round skirting and pink cement has been uncovered under the angle of the road fence west of the Church. (Probably actually the pavement mentioned by RCAHM) [TM 01 SW 28]. (4)
TM 0084 1245 Inside the garden wall of Yewtree House, a 3.0 m. by 0.3 m. strip of pavement lies exposed about a metre below the ground surface. Mr. Sheed, the owner, does not know the extent of the pavement, but has dug two pits to the east of the house in an attempt to locate the pavement in that direction. (Digging continuing). He notes that this tesselation is considerably lower than the pavements found by the church, by some 18 feet. Plotted in Antiquity Model. (5)
