Summary : Site of a Roman tessellated pavement or mosaic found in 1769 or 1776. Apparently destroyed soon after by the trampling of cattle, who broke through the surrounding fence. This feature is probably part of the Redcastle Farm Roman Vill, excavated in 1952-3 and recorded as TL 96 NW 4.
More information : (TL 904691) (1) A tessellated pavement was found
south-east of Redcastle farm about 1769 and was later destroyed by
cattle, who broke through the protecting fence. (Possible
mistaken identification with Roman villa site TL 96 NW 4). (1)
