More information : (TL 86717898) Tumulus (NR) (1) Excavation of the remains of the tumulus situated at the southern end of the meadow (from the tumulus at TL 86787907: TL 87 NE 11) revealed that quite 4/5ths of the original structure had been removed to below the present ground level and the remaining portion which now appears as a bank by the hedge was originally the southern perimeter of the tumulus. No material of any kind was discovered. (2) This barrow has been destroyed. (3) Published survey (25" 1904) revised. The barrow was situated on high ground. The area, under rough pasture, shows no evidence of the feature apart from a bank in and adjacent to the hedge at TL 867147976, which attains a maximum height of 0.4m, is 2.5m long, and spreads 2.0m into the field. (4)
The north east-south west aligned bamk has been partially destroyed by the creation of a gateway, at least 3m wide and 0.6m deep. It appears that much of the disturbance has taken place over the last few years.
As the barrow has been almost completely destroyed the association with the barrow SF 209 is not enough to justify inclusion of the barrow in the scheduling. (5)
