More information : NT 956316: Cropmarks of a two-entrance henge, 22m in diameter, containing a single off-centre pit were recorded from air photographs at Ewart Park. (1)
NT 956 316. Ewart Park. A classic henge appears as a small sub-oval cropmark enclosure situated on a sand and gravel terrace at c.46m above OD, lying between the Rivers Till and Glen, just over 1km distant from the latter at its closest point. The ditched enclosure is broken by two causeways, giving it an asymmetrical form. Cropmarks show a large off-centre pit. The north-western entrance is wider than the south-eastern one. The internal diameter range is c.12.5m-16.25m (estimated from transcription). The henge lies close to 3 pit alignments (NT 93 SE 27), an irregular series of pit-like marks and a sub-rectangular enclosure (NT 93 SE 24). A short stretch of the pit alignment north of the henge was excavated and found to contain Grooved Ware. (2)
