More information : (TL 889254) Part of a masonry building uncovered at Warren's Farm, had been erected in the later second century and lasted to the mid or late 4th century. Further investigation distinguished at least four phases of occupation. (a) An E-W ditch contained pottery of the mid-first to the mid-second century AD. (b) A stone foundation parallel to this, and presumably contemporary, had been cut by a small drainage channel running into the ditch. (c) A N-S corridor on the W. side of the late 2nd century house overlay the ditch and has subsided into it. (d) An E-W corridor on the N. side of the house belonged to a later structural period. There is also evidence for timber buildings as yet undated. (1-4)
TL 88942540. Excavation of Roman Villa continuing. (5)
The site falls on arable land that slopes gently SW toward Roman River 180.0m. away. No surface evidence was seen of the excavations. Mr. Peterson (a), one of the excavators, said that the operations were completed in 1971, and the findings confirmed it to be a corridor villa. A plan of the excavation (unpublished) is in the possession of another excavator, J. Blyth. (6)
