Summary : Site of Mediaeval beacon on High Haulme. High Haulme may be the site of `Hougun' documented in Domesday.
More information : [SD 22597599] BEACON [LB] (site of) [TI] (1) A turf covered earthwork on a hill top commanding an extensive all round view, consists of a mound formed by a substantial horse-shoe shaped bank, with an outer ditch on its N and E sides (3). It is known to have been used as the site of a medieval beacon (2)See GPs AO/58/248/1 & 2. (2-3) Resurveyed at 1/2500. (4) It is possible that this is the site of `Hougun' documented in Domesday. (5)
