DESCRIPTION

Small weatherboarded smock mill with a boat shaped cap. It was built at Adventurers Fen between 1897 and 1908 as a trestle mill. It was convert into a post mill in 1910. It became derelict and was moved to this site and converted into a drainage mill in 1955.

TL 56217058. Norman's Mill, name confirmed, formerly standing at TL55676955 was removed to this site in 1955, (TL 56 NE 79). It is the last surviving drainage windpump in Cambridgeshire. See ground photographs.(1)

TL56206. Adventurer's Fen Mill. Very small smock mill. Built as a trestle mill in 1908. Weather-boarded, thus converting it to a smock mill in 1910. Four-sided, four common sails and a tailpole. Removed from oite original site to Wicken Fen in 1955, and restored.
Wicken Fen is a nature reserve of the National Trust, and the last area of uncultivated fen. Because of peat shrinkage, it is now necessary to pump water up into the fen to maintain the water-table. The mill helps with this process. Grade II.(2-4)
