More information : [SD 19288734] Housman (Circ. 1800) describes a stone circle of some 22 stones near the Swinside circle, on dry, rising ground with a view of the Duddon Sands to the south west. C W Dymond could find no trace of the circle in 1901, but Marjorie Cross sites it on the Mount, near Ash House, where there is a level platform with two stones 3 ft high, the remainder having fallen into the gill below and are still visible. The circle diameter is 100ft and it is possible to see the Dudden Sands. (1-3) SD 19298730. Two large, upright stones, both over 1m high, and possibly the remains of a stone circle. Their situation, as given by Marjorie Cross, fits Housman's description except that the Swinside circle is approximately 1 1/2 miles to the WNW Surveyed at 1:2500. Listed by Burl as a plain circle 30.5m in diameter. (4)
